What We Cover:

Lesson 1: Measures of Central Tendency (Finding the Center) We start by identifying the “heart” of the data. This lesson goes beyond simple calculations to cover high-frequency exam topics:

• Mean: Strategies for solving “Missing Value” problems and weighted averages.

• Median: How to accurately find the median in large Frequency Tables without writing out every number.

• Mode: Identifying single, bimodal, and multimodal datasets.

Lesson 2: Simple Measures of Spread (Understanding the Gap) Knowing the center isn’t enough; you must understand the spread.

• Range: Calculating the distance between extremes.

• Outliers: The most critical concept for the SAT—understanding how and why outliers drastically affect the Mean but leave the Median relatively unchanged.

Lesson 3: Advanced Variation (Consistency & Spread) This is the key to answering “comparison” questions on the SAT.

• Standard Deviation: We skip the complex formulas and focus on the concept: determining when data is consistent (low SD) versus spread out (high SD).

• IQR (Interquartile Range): Mastering Quartiles (Q1, Q2, Q3) to measure the spread of the middle 50% of your data.
